Since the fourteenth century, Malgrat de Mar became well known for being a cultural, artistic and social town. As a result of this, modernism has also left its mark on Malgrat de Mar.

One of the main characteristics of the town is its diversity, something which is emphasized by the town´s various historic buildings and sites.

In its historical town centre, you can visit the church of St. Nicholas with its classic features and octagonal tower bell base.  The church is known as "the cathedral of the coast" due to its size.

Peixateries Vella (Old fishmongers) was built in the late nineteenth century. Originally, the site had a roof and hosted butchers to the south of the building, whilst the fishmongers could be found in the north. To this day, the site still has the stone on which fishmongers used to put their daily catch in order to sell it .

The Town Hall This modernistic style building was built on August 15^th, 1913. Its interior has been completely renovated.

The Town Library "La Cooperativa" was originally a manor house which was built in the late sixteenth century. The original family were the "Clapers dels". Later on however, the building had other functions such as: hospital blood donor site (eighteenth century), home of Casino Malgratenc (nineteenth century), a worker´s union (twentieth century) to its use today as the town library.

Ca l'Arnau Art Nouveau building dating from 1914. The building has been restored and now houses the tourism department of the municipality of Malgrat de Mar.

Can Campassol A truly beautiful green area, which was a colonial house where Mrs. Zenobia Camprubí, wife of Nobel laureate Juan Ramón Jiménez, spent several summers during his childhood. He now lives in Casal de Jubilats. (A retirement home).

The Pilona. From any of the beaches towards the South you can see a large stone called the pylon. It is an artificial platform which was used in the early twentieth century to ship iron from the Palomeras Can mines. Iron was transported from the mountain through a system of cars on metal towers.
